Pacific Office Interns Visit Sediment Removal Project
Our Pacific Office interns recently visited the San Gabriel Reservoir near Los Angeles, where Ames is removing 3.5 million cubic yards of sediment to increase water storage capacity. The interns gained a deeper understanding about how the sediment is removed from the reservoir, conditioned at drying stockpiles, and transported to the final placement site.
This emergency restoration project was triggered by rains that washed debris from the 2020 Bobcat Fire into the reservoir, reducing its water storage capacity. The reservoir provides flood control and groundwater recharge for the San Gabriel Valley and Greater Los Angeles.
Interns at Ames gain hands-on experience in the field and the office, and they contribute to critical projects. Ames provides opportunities across the U.S. to students pursuing careers in engineering, trade professions, accounting, information technology, safety, quality, environmental, and business
