169 Redefine – Elk River Named 2025 Project of the Year
Ames Construction is proud to share that the TH 169 Redefine – Elk River project was named 2025 Project of the Year in Transportation by the Minnesota chapter of the American Public Works Association.
The award recognizes projects that exemplify excellence in public works through innovation, collaboration, and community impact.
Through this project, the City of Elk River and Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) improved safety, mobility, and connectivity for the thousands of travelers who use the corridor each day. In three construction seasons, Ames crews replaced four signalized intersections with grade-separated, diverging single-point interchanges. The project eliminated stoplights and converted this segment of Highway 169 into a freeway.
Ames appreciates all the people, partners, and community members who contributed to this project’s success. “It is our hope that this project is remembered for the teamwork needed to build it and the people for whom it was built,” says Sam Buttweiler, Senior Project Manager. “Thank you for allowing us to be your partner.”
