Women in Construction Week Spotlight: Arika Morris
Ames Construction is proud to celebrate the extraordinary women on our team during Women in Construction Week—and every day of the year!
As we celebrate WIC Week and Women’s History Month, we’ll shine a spotlight on some of the women who contribute to the present and future of Ames and the entire heavy civil and industrial construction industry.

→ Why did you join the construction industry?
I fell into a job as an admin for a construction company, and the team I was working with convinced me to go to school for construction management. I am thankful every day for that push to try something that had never crossed my mind as an opportunity.
→ What has been the most memorable moment in your career?
I had the opportunity to attend a career fair at my alma mater and talk with students in the construction management program about their career paths. My career path has not been conventional, and it was so fun to be able to talk with them about all of the possibilities and how good it can be.
→ How can construction attract more female candidates?
By continuing to make positive changes that are more inclusive of families. Women are more likely to be primary caregivers, and the biggest obstacle for growth comes when we have to choose between career and family. It has been very encouraging to see the industry, and Ames in particular, make changes that foster career AND family growth.
