Women in Construction Week Spotlight: Angie Hodgson

Ames Construction is proud to celebrate the extraordinary women on our team during Women in Construction Week—and every day of the year!

As we celebrate WIC Week and Women’s History Month, we’ll shine a spotlight on some of the women who contribute to the present and future of Ames and the entire heavy civil and industrial construction industry.

→ What do you like best about working in construction?

I love that I have had so many positive interactions with coworkers, foremen, and superintendents. I have been given some amazing advice by many coworkers who became my mentors. Many of these men and women have been with me throughout my career with Ames. This is why they are more to me than just coworkers. They are family.

→ What makes you proud to work in the construction industry?

Construction gives me the ability and opportunity to provide for my kids and family while seeing the projects I helped construct. I’m proud that I can show my kids and family that you can do anything if you put your mind to it, even if sometimes you have to dig deep inside yourself and trust in your heart that the sacrifices are extremely worth it!

→ Why did you join the construction industry?

I had gone through the police academy prior to entering construction. After going through a divorce, I was looking for a better way to provide financially for myself and my kids. There was a gentleman I've known for years who asked me to come work for him. He helped me join the Operating Engineers Apprenticeship. After that, I never pursued a career in law enforcement again.
