Ames Construction crews are hitting milestones on the Metro Transit Gold Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Project in Minnesota.

More than 150 Ames craft workers and dozens of additional subcontractor workers are at sites along the project route from St. Paul to east metro suburbs, and construction is on track to be complete by late fall.

As of late August:

• The last of the project’s bridge girders were set.

• Structure crews are pouring concrete for road bridge decks and pedestrian bridges.

• Bus route grading crews have reached about 80 percent completion.

• Additional grading crews are finishing top soil at multiple locations.

• Pipe crews have installed about 55,000 linear feet of pipe, with about 14,000 feet to go.

Ames began construction of the 10-mile BRT route in late 2022. The route will be the state’s first BRT line that operates primarily on bus-only lanes.

The project includes the construction of 20 bus stations, eight new road bridges, two new pedestrian bridges, two bridge rehabilitations, 43 retaining walls, and eight noise walls.

Crews hit one of the project’s first major milestones in 2023, opening the new Bielenberg Bridge over I-94. The bridge provides a direct connection between the cities of Woodbury and Oakdale.
