The I-15 CORE project reconstructed a 24-mile section of Interstate I-15 in Utah, adding two lanes in both directions and replacing or rehabilitating 63 bridges.
Ames served as the lead civil contractor for the Provo River Constructors JV team. The project was the first time the State of Utah used a “fixed price/best design” project delivery method, and the entire project was designed and built in less than three years. The design included an innovative rotary interchange and a diverging diamond interchange.
At the peak of construction, more than 600 Ames craft and supervisory personnel worked on the project. All lanes of traffic, carrying an average of 150,000 vehicles a day, were maintained through the construction zone.
To meet the construction schedule, the project used Accelerated Bridge Construction (ABC) methods to erect four of the project’s permanent bridges. The newly constructed bridges were moved into place using self-propelled modular transporters.
The project was completed a month ahead of schedule and $14 million under budget.
